mendocino: redwood and the ocean
we went to mendocino for a 'mini-break' where lindsey's parents have a vacation house in the town of Albion (3 hr north of san fran). it was 4 days of decadence. 4 foodies in the wine country, living in a house that sits on a cliff protruding into the pacific, with a kitchen that has a 270 degree view of the ocean, a hot tub under clear stary nights, and deer grazing in the 'backyard'.
we cooked (and ate, and drank wine, a lot of wine), and kind of tried to move around a bit between meals, but most of the moving was done in the local produce stands/fish market getting more food to cook with, or tidepooling in search of crab, abalone, and octupus for appetizers. we did find gigantic crabs and abalone just hanging out along the rocky shore during low tide (didn't actually cook them, afterall we are lawful citizens w/o licenses). but the octupus eluded us. bass keeps reminiscing of the day that we went tidepooling at swami's and found a 'tasty' octupus, and regrets that we never actually found out how tasty it was...
